It is sometimes hard to find plastic free shopping in rural village shops but our (The Hutts) local – Matfen Village Store and Coffee Shop – supply paper bags to use for your warm pasties, fresh local veg, home cooked deli goodies and a selection of sweets. The shopping baskets are even wicker rather than plastic.
We are having a petrol free Saturday so I (Sally) cycled to Matfen for the newspaper and a few essential supplies for plastic free pizza tea – namely ham and tomatoes. To fuel my return journey I had scrambled egg on toast and a drink of Fentiman’s Ginger Beer (a slight breaking of the rules as the metal top of the bottle has a small plastic lining).
Did I spy plastic round those caulies? Otherwise it all looks great.

Yes – the caulies were wrapped in plastic so not for us! The potatoes could be picked straight our of a paper sack though.
